Preservations

Preservations

We may not agree

We may have bad history

But I’ll sing your praises

To the deafest of ears, I’ll deliver

There is a shine about you

Although tarnished by neglect

I know someday you’ll reflect

And you’ll be as pure as silver

We live in two separate worlds

At times our arms unfurl

We reach across the aeons

To find a middle ground

Someday when we split

We’ll drift and all will go dark

We’ll appreciate everything stark

All the memories will compound

Days of longing

Nights of retreating

Positively charged

Negatively cheating

Sacrificing our tendencies

To suffuse all the good into bad

It only makes us sad

I’d rather give you what you deserve

Dignity and respect

Come from the humanity that we’ve kept

I’ll leave this home we’ve built

But in my heart you’ll stay preserved
